How is another weekend already almost over? My first (exhausting) week on night shift is over and I have at least one more ahead of me. While I can barely stay awake because I did not get nearly enough sleep this week, I can say that I have gotten a lot of reading done. I finished 5 whole books! I learned a lot about both the cruelty as well as the triumph of humans in Surviving the Angel of Death and Finding LatinX. Come On In showed me that despite being on varying spots of the privilege spectrum in regards to immigration, there are some things that we can still have in common anyways. A Dog’s Perfect Christmas was a sweet story of a struggling family coming back together with the help of two adorable pups. The most fun read though was The Midnight Bargain, which I read completely in one sitting!
I’m so glad that I had such a good reading week and am a little ahead of schedule because if you saw my list of October Reads, then you know I’ve got quite a long list to get through. Here is what I am working on now! The currently reading list continues to stay short because I am trying to not spread myself too thin and read one at a time.
Audiobook

My Sister, the Serial Killer Killer // by Oyinkan Braithwaite // narrated by Adepero Oduye
Update:
I’m struggling to get through this but at absolutely zero fault of the book itself. I have been listening to audiobooks for several months straight now and I think I am just a little burned out on them. The narrator continues to be brilliant. I love her. I’m just struggling to focus on listening to a book currently. Once I am done with this one, I will be taking a break from them and go back to listen to podcasts for a little while.
Kindle

Kingdom of the Wicked // by Kerii Maniscalco
Synopsis:
Emilia and her twin sister Vittoria are streghe – witches who live secretly among humans, avoiding notice and persecution. One night, Vittoria misses dinner service at the family’s renowned Sicilian restaurant. Emilia soon finds the body of her beloved twin . . . desecrated beyond belief. Devastated, Emilia sets out to find her sister’s killer and to seek vengeance at any cost-even if it means using dark magic that’s been long forbidden.
Then Emilia meets Wrath, one of the Wicked-princes of Hell she has been warned against in tales since she was a child. Wrath claims to be on Emilia’s side, tasked by his master with solving the series of women’s murders on the island. But when it comes to the Wicked, nothing is as it seems . . .
Why did I choose this:
I want to read more fantasy and I’ve heard incredible things about this one. I think I received this galley on accident actually because I could’ve sworn I was rejected at first.
Current Thoughts:
I’m only a few chapters in but I like it so far. Some scenes do feel a little rushed though and could use some more details in my opinion.

Like I said, my list is pretty short. I did read a few pages of a different book earlier because I didn’t have my kindle with me but I’m not really counting that yet because I’m not planning on picking that up until I get completely through Kingdom of the Wicked. What are you reading right now? Is there something you’re looking forward to this week?
I really liked my sister the serial killer. I can’t wait to hear what you think of it!

I’m really struggling with focusing on it but the book itself and the narrator are so good!
